NGTL maintenance to cut Kingsgate supply in mid-August

According to NGTL’s July Monthly Outage Forecast, issued last Friday, the pipeline is still planning to reduce capacity at the AB/BC border in mid-August. The capacity reduction at the AB/BC border will limit the amount of gas able to flow downstream to the Kingsgate hub on the US border, leaving the PNW reliant on increased inflows from the Rockies via Ruby. The maintenance is currently scheduled to run from August 10 through August 19 and will cut capacity at the AB/BC border to 1.8 Bcf/d, a reduction of more than 400 MMcf/d. A similar maintenance event in July 2016 cut deliveries to GTN at Kingsgate to 1.8 Bcf/d, down from 2.2 Bcf/d in the prior ten days. During last summer’s restriction, basis at the Malin hub averaged negative $0.15/MMBtu, up $0.02/MMBtu from the rest of July 2016 despite lower overall demand on PG&E’s system during the maintenance. Simultaneously, inflows to the PNW from Ruby jumped as high as 827 MMcf/d, their second-highest levels of last summer.
